New Star Wars: Clone Wars Toy Packaging For 2009

Jay Cochran - January 12, 2009
Fans and collectors will soon see a new packaging design across all Star Wars merchandise, courtesy of design agency Pilot as well as Lucasfilm's own Licensing team.

The timing of the new packaging design is intended to correspond roughly with the second season of The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network and to celebrate the launch of all new episodes. "We collaborated with Pilot just like we have in the past," says Lucas Licensing Director of Global Product Development Stacy Cheregotis. "We look to them for cutting edge design and creativity, and they look to us for direction about what we want to accomplish with the packaging."

Cheregotis says that there are several questions raised when approaching a new design: "Do we want the change to be revolutionary or evolutionary? Are there particular color palettes we want to work with? Are there elements of the new shows that should be reflected in the design? Are there lessons we learned from the last round of packaging?"

From these questions, Pilot is able to produce several design concepts for consideration by the Licensing team, which they review together. "We'll discuss our likes and dislikes, and that usually leads to a second round of design that is much more narrowed down," says Cheregotis. "And then it is a process of fine-tuning to arrive at the final designs."

Head over to StarWars.com to check out an interview with Pilot's Bill Concannon about the new packaging design.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned: the Teen Titans.

This would be a natural life-action vehicle, its gotten recent exposure with the animated series and a teen/young adult cast would make it spark with audiences.

Mentioned - post 19. But not expanded upon.

I would think almost any character has the potential to have an interesting movie. It really depends on the script, directing, cast, effects, etc. That story with Green Arrow being thrown in prison and having to face all the guys he put in there sounded interesting. I know that story has been done a few times with Batman, Punisher, Daredevil and others. Green Lantern could be quite cool. Aquaman, despite the Entourage joke, could have a very cool story with Atlantis going to war with the surface. Flash is an obvious choice, being one of the better known characters.

The problem with DC characters in general is that they're back stories and motivations tend to be fairly superficial. Batman, Superman, Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern are obvious exceptions. Barry Allen was a cop who got splashed with lightening charged chemicals and decided to put on a costume. Not all that interesting. They would either have to build up that story to make an engaging origin movie or just take the origin as given and jump right into whatever his best story line was.

Question?

Wasn't there supposed to be a Captain Marvel movie with the Rock playing Black Adam, what happened to that?

Just the typical long development stage that many movies go through before actually getting filmed.

Give me a GL movie starting with Hal Jordan and if the franchise grows we could see Jon Stewart,Guy Gardner and maybe Kyle Rainer

And just imagine the tie-in merchandising sales potentials! A pretty much never-ending supply of GLs for action figures... Light-up power rings... all manner of 'lantern-energy' accessories for the figures!

I voted for Green Lantern. All of the characters listed have great potential but Green Lantern seems to be the character I bet could rival Supes and Bats. People would drool over a properly done Green Lantern movie, which can be done. If you can do Matrix, the newest Star Wars and LOTR you can do a Corps movie. I wuld start off with a Green Lantern movie first that takes place on earth AND space, then expand it to a Corps movie. Captain Marvel can easily be done. All they need is good script writers who can put these characters in a modern story.

I vote for all of the above - we need more DC movies on the big screen!.....

I voted for Green Lantern. From GL's powers to the cosmic nature of the character, a GL movie screams summer blockbuster.

Wonder woman should be a hit movie. I also think Captain Marvel, if done right, would be a hit movie.

I just baffles me that DC can't get the movie side of their properties off the launchpad.
