Star Wars: A Look Back At 2019 - Toys And Collectibles

Bespin refugee - December 27, 2019
As the new year nears, it is time to look back on some of my personal favorite toys and collectibles from 2019*.

Last year's Toy Fair kicked off with the announcement of the Retro Collection, which started off as Target exclusives. By now, I would've expected to see announcements on the potential expansion of the line. (any more 'unptroduced characters?).

There was also the introduction of the 8" HyperReal line, which includes Darth Vader and Bespin Luke.
With the arrival of the HasLab Jabba;'s Sail Barge, we also got a new skiff, as well as, a number of associated figures.

One of my favorite items from this year is the Jabba's Palace Adventure set. I'm still hoping to see this concept applied to some other environments, like the Cantina, Cloud City, and Death Star.

With the 20th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, The Black Series Fan Choice winner, Dagobah Luke Skywalker, was also chosen and announced.

As the release of The Rise Of Skywalker and Jedi: Fallen Order, as well as the premiere of The Mandalorian, Triple Force Friday saw the release of the related merchandise. I wasn't able to watch The Mandalorian right away, but, once I saw it, the Black Series figure went on my wish list. Thankfully, I was able to get one,

Personally, most of my favorite items this year are from the Black Series, the Archive rereleases, the Amazon exclusive Emperor Palpatine and Chewbacca w C-3PO,(another wishlist item to check off) and the prequel figure announcements. I can't wait to see what the new year holds.

Only a month and a half until Toy Fair...

* I intend to exclude all of the other companies (Bandai, Funko,Kotobukiya, Sideshow, etc...), but, the Hasbro lines are the focus of my collection. Please, feel free to add your personal favorites in the comments.

I was very happy to get the Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker from Black Series. Was just nice to get the Black Series version of my favorite Star Wars toy from when I was a kid.

Me too, that one and the Mandalorian are probably my favorites for the year. I didn't pick up everything since I'm more picky with the 6'' line that I was with the 4'' line but based on reviews and images we got some great pieces this year. I love the look of that Throne room Palpatine, I was holding out for a ROTS senate duel version with a lightsaber but I might pick up it up anyway. I also enjoyed the Archives line as it gave me a chance of getting figures that I missed out when they were first released.

Solid choices up top there bud.I was only able to pick up one Star Wars fig this year (I stick with only SHF at the moment). Been dealing with injured wife from a car accident all year so collecting had to take a back seat. Was able to get that Darth Vader ROTJ SHF that came out in October and man is it awesome. Fingers crossed that I can really build up on that collection in 2020 but it was a quiet '19 for me.
