Mel Brooks Writing Spaceballs 2

Bespin refugee - February 06, 2015
With the original Star Wars cast returning later this year, in The Force Awakens, it seems Mel Brooks also wants to bring back his parody of the franchise, with a sequel to 1987's Spaceballs. Brooks is currently writing the story, and hopes to convince Rick Moranis, who is semi-retired, to reprise his role as Dark Helmet. It is unknown how, or if, the story would deal with the deaths of cast members John Candy (Barf) and Joan Rivers (voice of Dot Matrix).

If completed, this would be the second time Brooks returned to the world of Spaceballs, following an animated series in 2007/8
