How Did Palpatine Return From The Dead In Rise Of Skywalker?!?

Jay Cochran - March 02, 2020
For those wondering just how Palpatine returned to the land of the living in Rise of Skywalker, it looks like the answer may be revealed in the novelization of the latest film slated for wide release on March 19. In the book, this passage was revealed suggesting the Palpatine we saw in Rise of Skywalker was in fact a clone housing the conscious of Darth Sidious. The essence of Palptaine was likely transferred using forbidden Sith science shortly after Vader tossed him down a shaft at the end of Return of the Jedi.

”What could you give me?" Kylo asked. Emperor Palpatine lived, after a fashion, and Kylo could feel in his very bones that this clone body sheltered the Emperor's actual spirit. It was an imperfect vessel, though, unable to contain his immense power. It couldn't last much longer.”

The book which was written by Rae Carson saw an early release at this past weekend's c2e2 convention in Chicago. The idea of Palpatine being able to live-on in the body of a clone is not a new one. We first saw this concept play out in the classic Dark Empire comic book series back in the 90s. Of course that begs the question. If Palpatine could have his consciousness transferred to a new body before death once, why not a second time?

It makes me laugh (and shake my head) when Disney and Kathleen Kennedy constantly claim they aren't using any materials from the extended Universe or "legacy" as they refer to it these days in the new movies. Virtually the entire new Trilogy is a rip-off of the Dark Empire comics storyline and some of the books.

They just changed some names; "Ben" Skywalker becomes "Ben" Solo, for example.

The worse part is when they try to pass it off as this new thing when it's something that was introduced in the Expanded Universe years ago.

The Dark Empire series made it clear that his immense power destroyed clone bodies because they werent natural or the original host body. Thus, he needed a newvessel. After further sabotage and no more clone bodies, Palps went after the newborn Anakin Solo to inhabit and was shot in the chest by Han.

In TRoS, that was going to beeither Ben or Rey. That was evident from the start. I just wish if they were homaging Dark Empire, they could have shown Palpy clones instead of Snoke clones in order to make it work. Heck. Snoke should have been a failed attempt at cloning Palps but was still used anyway

Wow, this is so dumb and so lazy.

I imagine it was gonna have something to do with clones.
