Conceptual Artist And Star Wars Creature Designer Ron Cobb Dies At Age 83

Bespin refugee - September 21, 2020

Conceptual artist Ron Cobb, who helped design the aliens from the Mos Eisley Cantina, has died at 83. Possibly one of his most recognizable creature designs ks the Ithorian Momaw Nadon (A.K.A. "Hammerhead").

The Tartakovsky Clone Wars micro series even included a Jedi named Roron Corobb.

Besides Star Wars, Cobb is also known for helping to design the ship from Alien and the DeLorean time machine from Back To The Future.

It's sad that cartoonist likeRon Cobb,Ralph McQuarrie don't get the real spotlight durning their life, only after death they are revealed to be real inspiration not only for past but also future, I remember watching documentary on sequel trilogy which pretty much suggested that most ideas from first movie came fromMcQuarrie's unused art.

It's like the people who give Stan Lee all of the credit and don't know who Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko are.

No, don't name them to me, mate, but to hordes of casuals and newcomer fans who have the false belief that absolutely everything came out of Lucas' head.

You're not the only other person on these boards, right?

A pity, Lucas may have created Star Wars, but all these artists were the ones who shaped it and often didn't have the merit they deserve.

Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, Ron Cobb, John Dystra, Phil Tippett, Jon Berg just to name a few.

Ron Cobb didn't just help design the USCSS Nostromo, he did design the ship, inside and out, as well as the Narcissus escape pod.

There is no death, there is only the force The Jedi Code. RIP Ron Cobb, may your work live on forever.

That's a bummer, Ithorians are one of my favorite races in all of Star Wars, I always liked the look of them. I always liked the idea of an Ithorian Jedi Knight but I didn't loved the design for Roron Corobb. RIP.
