Yep. People want stuff and there isn't enough stuff.
Sounds like bad logistics, really. They have a second GE being built, so you know they will produce enough merch. As much as I hate to say it, but by keeping it at reservation only, they can at least project how much to have based on the number of reservations for a particular timeframe.
Im also shocked they dont sell certain items online, even at inflated prices compared to being in-park
